Many times when a student who is in high school or preparing to go off to college walks into an insurance agency to get a quote on car insurance for the first time, they are absolutely floored by the quote they are given. This is due to the fact that there is a much higher risk of accident involved with insuring young or new drivers. Typically, the age for insurance coverage to become less expensive is about 25 in most states. This means that a person who is 18 and wanting insurance coverage could pay triple or even quadruple the amount a 30 year old person may pay. This can be rather discouraging to a new driver who is just trying to become independent of their parents and start their lives as adults.

The good news is that students who maintain a certain grade point average may be entitled to a discount on their auto insurance. This is not the case with all insurance companies so a student may want to shop around a little until they are able to find a company that does offer this perk to students with good grades. This little perk gives students all the more reason to keep their grades up and this is the reason many insurance companies have jumped on board with these type of discounts. They think of it as a way to assist in our future by encouraging education and studies among our youth.
